TOA - TECH OPEN AIR FESTIVAL | BERLIN
or: How to deliver a hands-on workshop in 45 min
The challenge: 45 min — hands-on Workshop actually 20 Min.
Topic: “Successes of today are the failures of tomorrow”
Goal: Discover new ways of thinking and working & experience it
It was End of May and Benjamin and I were asked to do a talk and a workshop. Benjamin should do the talk and together we decided to do the workshop. His topic is innovation, with the focus on digital transformation. And I am into Gamification, Workshops & designing experiences. I believe, if you want somebody to learn something new, they need to experience this for themselves. So we stuck our heads together shaping a 45 Minutes Workshop with intro, inspiration, hands-on experience and aftermath. Important for us, was to let the people discuss and do get to a possible solution. It is always easy to ted-talk, but the true value is when you doing it on our own.
And guess what, as a moderator, I had to be very pushy, to get them trough the tasks and don’t loose the joy of it — so I was the bad guy, always putting pressure on the folks, who took all with fun.
What I used as Gamification Methods to make it more fun in such a short time frame. I created a story around the workshop, so what our target is, what the people need to do and let them be all our heroes and tell their story.
- Story and Narrative
- Learning and experience
- Timer / Countdown
- Pressure and Treshold
- Social Meaning trough give people a stage
This is what came out:
- 10 Posters with 5 keyareas (scroll down to see them)
- Build discussions
- Formed groups of total strangers before
- Had hard fun and fun work (← This is what makes a good Gamification)
THE 10 POSTERS
This is what the more than 70 participants brought up in just 20 minutes. It was incredible powerful to see people, who were total strangers at the begin of the workshop got together and developed a complete shared experience and insights we all benefits of.
THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR IDEAS, YOUR INSPIRATION, YOUR POWER AND IDEAS!
